Biography

Dr. Hammer is passionate about providing personalized and comprehensive eye care to the community. With a focus on ocular disease and primary care, she excels at identifying underlying health issues through eye examinations, clear communication with patients, and extensive expertise in eye health management. Dr. Hammer’s services include comprehensive ocular exams that analyze eye health and visual function. In addition to vision exams, she also specializes in testing and treatment for glaucoma, macular degeneration, corneal diseases, infections, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, and ocular trauma.

Dr. Hammer completed her undergraduate schooling at Carson Newman University, earning her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry in 2014. As a native of East Tennessee, Dr. Hammer was eager to return to the Knoxville area to begin her career. She has been with Volunteer Eyecare since obtaining her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in 2019. She completed her externships with a specialty in corneal and refractive surgery with Toyos Clinic and a private practice rotation with Jones Eyecare in Germantown, TN.
She is a member of the East Tennessee Society of Optometric Physicians, American Optometric Association, and Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians.

Dr. Hammer and her husband, Chase, are expecting their first child, Bodie, in the spring of 2025. They currently live in North Knoxville with their 3 dogs. Outside of work, she enjoys photography, traveling, fishing, visiting the theater, and exploring new restaurants.
