The Volunteer Eyecare story began in 2002 in a small farm house turned office in Anderson County, Tennessee. Our founder, Dr. Steven Elliott, knew then that he wanted a hometown eye care practice where folks would feel welcome and important at each and every visit.
As a student doctor, Dr. Elliott onced asked a private practice optometrist, “What does it take to have a successful optometry practice?” and the answer was simple. “Treat people the way you want to be treated and strive to do your best each and every day.” The rest is history. Dr. Elliott opened Elliott Eyecare after graduation in May of 2002 and saw his first patient in this little farm house.

Volunteer Eyecare started with two full-time employees in 2002. Sharon Smith was the first full-time employee. She has done almost every job there is in the practice. She currently serves as office manager and insurance administrator. Pam Tolson, L.D.O. was instrumental in getting our optical established. Doctor Elliott’s wife worked part-time in the evening after coming home from her full-time job and on Saturdays. Today, we employ over forty team members and are always looking to hire new team members who are humble, hungry and smart.
Our vision is for you to feel welcome and important every time you visit us. We want you to feel like a member of our family of patients. It is our desire that you will enjoy our services and products so much that you will send your friends and family to us as well.
2020 is the year of the eye doctor and we are excited about our future. This year we are adding two new doctors to our team. Additionally, by popular demand we plan to open a West Knoxville office in October to serve our patients who live/work in this area.
Our practice continues to grow thanks to the continued support of our patients and community. Consequently, we added four new associates to our team in 2022. Our future is focused on you.
